Due to the Coronavirus outbreak in China, Virtuos, the studio handling the port version of The Outer Worlds, has their China offices closed for the time being to implement a mandatory quarantine to protect their employees.

Their studios are located in X’ian and Chengdu and publisher Private Division confirms that “the team at Virtuos is ok” via Twitter and will need more time to compete the port.

The port of The Outer Worlds was originally planned for a March 6, 2020 release and will also launch with a physical copy of the game.

Virtuos has over 1,600 employees over 11 branches all around the world and has assisted Respawn Entertainment in the development of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Frontier Developments’ Planet Zoo.

Take-Two, the parent publisher of The Outer Worlds, announced during an investors call that the RPG sold over 2 million copies across PS4, Xbox One, and PC platforms, exceeding the company’s expectations.

The Outer Worlds is Obsidian Entertainments latest IP and greatly resembles games like Fallout: New Vegas and The Elder Scrolls series. The Outer Worlds is a sci-fi RPG that allows players to explore a space colony and their actions steer the narrative and fates of the characters in the game.
