Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Adds 3rd-Person Mode & New Game+ in December
/Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment have announced they are giving Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora players two of the most requested features — 3rd-person mode and New Game+.
Avatar is by no means a bad game per se; it’s a solid and visually stunning Ubisoft open-world title when it launched in 2023. It was just dragged down by the fact that it still features the typical Ubisoft open-world formula, one that many have grown tired of. I played it at launch and had a blast, as I consider it one of the company’s best offerings in recent years. It could have been much worse, especially given the track record of games based on movie IPs.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora - 3rd-Person Mode and New Game+
The real surprise was the developer’s choice to make the game first-person. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora feels like a game that would have benefited more from a third-person perspective. It’s also a title where you can customize your Na’vi, which didn’t mean much as you rarely saw your character outside of the main story’s cutscenes.
The addition of third-person mode makes the game more appealing to those still eager for Ubisoft’s brand of open-world experiences. It’s worth returning to, or trying for the first time, when the update drops. The wait will be a bit long, though, as the free update is scheduled to arrive on December 5, just ahead of the new movie Avatar: Fire and Ash, which hits theaters on December 19.
This update continues the game’s steady post-launch support, which has included two story packs:
The Sky Breaker — where players join the great Na’vi games and witness the zakru migration
Secrets of the Spires — which introduces a stunning mountainous region that enhances the thrill of banshee flying
Since its release, the game has also received several quality-of-life updates, including a revamped Hunter’s Guide, a smoother 40 FPS mode, and rebalanced combat.
If you’re okay with what’s currently available, Ubisoft announced that the game is now on sale across various platforms. On Steam, it’s 70% off until August 1. If you can’t justify jumping in now, there will likely be more opportunities to grab it at a discount as we get closer to the December update.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Ubisoft Connect.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach delivers higher visual fidelity, consistent performance across the board, and a few new tricks that make gameplay more accessible, challenging, and fun. If you have the patience and come in with an open mind, you’ll be in an exclusive group of people who will struggle to describe this experience to anyone else.
