Elden Ring’s graphics team felt some pressure thanks to the Demon’s Souls Remake

In a recent interview with Edge Magazine (transcribed by VGC), From Software designer Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that the graphics team for their upcoming game Elden Ring did feel pressure due to the graphical fidelity shown by Bluepoint Game’s Demon’s Souls remake that released on the PS5 during the console’s launch.

If you’ve played Demon’s Souls remake, you’re definitely aware of how visually impressive the PS5 exclusive is as a launch title and the team responsible for Elden Ring’s visuals felt pressure with a game out there in the wild. But the folks at From was not a top priority when working on Elden Ring.

“Graphical fidelity is not something we put as the top priority. What we ask for on the graphics side depends on the systems and requirements of the game itself, and it takes less priority compared to the other elements of development.” says Miyazaki.

This is understandable to hear that the systems that make the game the way it is are more focused than how it will look on certain systems. But based on the gameplay footage released on Elden Ring so far, the game is visually impressive, especially considering the game’s scale. It’s all praise from fans, especially after many have tried the Network Test that was conducted last year.

In the interview, Miyazaki also mentioned that he has not played Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls because it brings in old memories.

“It brings up a lot of old emotions, a lot of old memories, and this gets a little bit overwhelming, and it doesn’t feel like playing any more. So I have not played the Demon’s remake, but I am very glad to see it get this fresh look, these brand-new current-gen graphics.”

Elden Ring will be released in a busy month as it’s set to come out on February 25, 2022 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
