It’s official - PlayStation will skip E3 2020, one of the biggest video game convention in the world for the second time in a row.

PlayStation informed Gameindustry.biz of this decision as the company believes E3 isn’t right for what they have planned for the PlayStation 4 and the launch of the PlayStation 5, which is set to launch later this year.

With regards to this year’s E3, a spokesperson of Sony Interactive Entertainment said to Gameindustry.biz that "We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.”

“We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”

Their plan in giving their fans access to exclusive content was felt in the Philippines as PlayStation provided a playable demo of Final Fantasy VIII Remake at SM North ESDA’s activity center for fans to try out the game for free.

This will mark the company’s first time to unveil the details of the next PlayStation console for the western market outside E3’s halls as that has been the case in the past. In 1995, PlayStation attended the first E3 and revealed the details of the US launch of the first PlayStation console. They did the same for the PlayStation 2 at E3 2000, E3 2005 for the PlayStation 3, and E3 2013 for the PlayStation 4.

With Sony officially out of the picture, all eyes are back to Microsoft which will most likely utilize the absence of Nintendo and Sony at E3 to reveal details on their new console the Xbox Series X, which will rival the PlayStation 5 when both consoles launches at the end of this year.
