Doomfist and Orisa receives a major rework in Overwatch 2

Blizzard revealed ahead of their upcoming PvP beta for Overwatch 2 that characters Doomfist and Orisa have had their kits reworked, with Doomfist now functioning as a tank and Orisa now more than capable of going on the offensive during head-to-head engagements.

For starters, Doomfist is no longer a damage-dealer as he will now act as a tank for your team. With that alone, his health increased from 250 to 450. To cater to his new role, they replaced his infamous Uppercut move with a new ability called Power Block to protect himself from incoming damage. All the damage he absorbs will charge his gauntlet, strengthening the next Rocket Punch or Seismic Slam.

“Doomfist’s kit rewards both defensive and offensive playstyles with many high-damage combos. When he blocks damage for his team, he can quickly charge Rocket Punch, knock enemies back, and potentially stun them for around one second if they are punched into a wall. When you block a hard-hitting attack, you get powered up instantly. It almost feels like a parry,” says Lead Hero Designer Geoff Goodman.

For Orisa, Blizzard stripped her old kit entirely. She now has Energy Javalin, which can push enemies back and deal extra damage if those enemies hit a wall. The new Javelin Spin for Orisa can be used to close the gap as it moves her forward while destroying projectiles in front of her and knocking enemies in her path. Finally, her new ultimate Terra Surge is a chargable skill that pulls enemies to her, makes her fortified, and can dish out an area-of-effect attack when released.

“We want Orisa to push and engage enemies more,” says Senior Hero Designer Brandon Brennan. “Her gun encourages her to get close to enemies and play more forward in Overwatch 2.” Orisa’s secondary fire, Energy Javelin, is now a skill shot projectile javelin that impacts the first enemy in its path. “It’s a micro-stun and can do more damage when there’s a wall behind you,”

Big changes for two heroes – One taking a new role while the other now capable of being more aggressive. The Overwatch 2 beta test is set to go live on April 26 and we’ll see what people think of the new iterations of Doomfist and Orisa. The beta will also feature the new hero Sojourn.
