Blizzard is dropping the “2” from Overwatch while launching five new heroes, sub-roles, a story arc, and a faction-based meta event next week.

Blizzard Entertainment announced that they bringing their titles to Steam, starting with Overwatch 2 on August 10, 2023. This version of the free-to-play title will have Steam achievement support, friends list support, and will still require you to log in using your Battle.net account.

Blizzard announced that their upcoming story missions going live in Season 6 will be paywalled as you’ll need to buy a $15 bundle to get access to these new missions. They also detailed the new game modes coming to the game in season 6 such as a new co-op mode and a PvP mode called Flashpoint.

The Overwatch 2 team at Blizzard announced they will celebrate Pride Month starting today, June 1, 2023, with visual changes in the maps Midtown and Watchpoint: Gibraltar, plus free player cards and icons for all players.

The team working on Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 announced that they are no longer releasing the promised PvE Hero mode that was revealed when the sequel was announced in 2019. They are now going to divert all their efforts to the game’s live service and release story-based content in future seasons. 

Blizzard’s free-to-play multiplayer for Overwatch 2 is hosting a new event called Starwatch: Galactic Rescue from now until May 22, 2023, on all platforms. It features a unique game mode on the transformed Horizon Lunar Colony Assault map. 

Blizzard is updating Overwatch 2 with a new game mode called Battle for Olympus, which will be available for all players starting now until January 19, 2023. The new free-for-allo mode features seven heroes having new abilities.

Blizzard have revealed their upcoming hero Ramattra’s abilities, the new tank that adds new properties to the game such as a vortex that not only slows enemies but also pulls flyers down, plus two modes that have their own way of attacking and mitigating attacks.

Blizzard revealed the next hero joining Overwatch 2 during the Overwatch League Grand Finals and it’s Ramattra, a tank Omnic activist that was actually introduced years ago at the conclusion of an event called Storm Rising. He will be available on December 6 when season 2 goes live.

Blizzard announced that the Halloween event for free-to-play online shooter Overwatch 2 is now live. The Halloween Terror event will run from today, October 25 until November 8. The event will feature Halloween-themed cosmetics that can be earned by playing or purchased.

It looks like Blizzard can’t catch a break, as besides of the various issues still plaguing the now free-to-play Overwatch 2, they now had to temporarily disable heroes Bastion and Torbjorn due to game breaking bugs affecting their ability kits.

Blizzard announced that they are lifting the phone number requirement for a majority of their Overwatch 1 player base that are trying to play Overwatch 2, as some players are finding issues with entering their phone number, specifically those with prepaid plans in their respective region.
