Blizzard Games Are Coming to Steam, Starting With Overwatch 2

Blizzard Entertainment announced that they bringing their titles to Steam, starting with Overwatch 2 on August 10, 2023.

“It’s our goal at Blizzard to listen to players and try to exceed their expectations in everything we do,” said Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment. “While Battle.net remains a priority for us now and into the future, we’ve heard players want the choice of Steam for a selection of our games, starting with Overwatch 2 on August 10th. We’re happy to work with Valve to make that happen.”

Blizzard didn’t reveal what games will launch on Steam right after Overwatch 2.

The launch of the free-to-play online shooter on Steam will be in line with the launch of the game’s Invasion update on August 10 as well, which debut’s the game first batch of paid story missions for the game.

This isn’t Blizzard slowly stepping away from their own client Battle.net, the application that has been hosting their PC titles for years. When Overwatch 2 launches on Steam, players will still need a Battle.net account to connect to the game, similar to how console versions of their game still require you to have a Battle.net account.

They consider Overwatch 2 as a “perfect title to debut on the platform”, which makes sense as Steam is still one of the most dominant storefronts in the platform as Valve announced back in 2021 that it had 132 million monthly active users that year.

This version of the game will feature Steam achievements and friends lists but did not confirm if the game will have Steam Deck support at launch.
