Street Fighter 6 gameplay revealed, coming 2023

Capcom gives us our first look at actual gameplay for the upcoming fighting game Street Fighter 6, showcasing Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke, and newcomer Jamie. They also detailed the game’s system, features like Modern Control Type, real time commentators, World Tour, and more.

In a press release provided by Capcom, Street Fighter 6 is built using the RE Engine used in other Capcom games like Resident Evil Village and Devil May Cry 5. The single player mode shown at the start of the gameplay trailer above is called World Tour and is set in a city called Metro City. They didn’t go into detail on what exactly this is but based on the trailer you are given the freedom to explore the city and take fights in the streets.

Street Fighter 6 game features

Drive System

Capcom also mentioned what they call the Drive System, which consists of five mechanics that is designed to “increase the degree of tactical freedom and give full play to the player's personality”. Each mechanic makes use of a Drive bar in your Drive Gauge.

Drive Impact - A powerful strike that can absorb an opponent’s incoming attack. Perform this on an opponent backed into the corner to induce a wall splat, even if they block the attack.

Drive Parry - Automatically repel an opponent’s attack and replenish Drive Gauge when performed successfully. Perform a Perfect Parry by parrying just before an opponent’s attack hits you.

Overdrive Art - Press two of the same button type instead of one when performing a special move to turn it into an Overdrive Art. These are the same attacks as EX Special Moves in past games.

Drive Rush - Perform a quick rush forward from a Drive Parry or a cancelable normal attack. Drive Rush from a parry costs 1 Drive Stock, while Drive Rush from a normal attack costs 3 Drive Stocks.

Drive Reversal - Perform a counterattack while blocking an opponent’s attack. The damage is low but can help you out of tight situations when you’re being pressured.

Modern Control Type

Street Fighter 6 will feature a Modern Control Type option which simplifies the game by making character moves easier to do. For example – instead of doing the traditional method of throwing Ryu’s Hadouken projectile, you can perform the move by simply pressing a single button.
