All The Biggest PS5 Issues Reported So Far

The PlayStation 5 is now available in select countries and as much as many critics have given praise for Sony’s latest console, no product is immune to hardware issues and software glitches. We looked around the web for the latest reports from the first batch of PS5 owners detailing major issues they’ve experience when using the console so far.

Here’s what we know.

A Content Creator experienced a PS5 dying on him

This is kind of a shocker. Youtuber ACG’s PlayStation 5 review unit completely broke down on him, happening a day before the official launch in the US and Japan. It was due to a storage glitch that was giving ACG problems when the PS5 was being turned on in its ‘rest’ state, giving a corrupt file error. The issue eventually got worse over time as ACG’s PS5 eventually died on him. There is currently no issue similar to this reported by the public, but this issue stems at the PS5’s storage.

Giant Bomb editor Jeff Gerstmann also experienced issues with the storage as his PS5 crashed a couple of times when waking up from rest mode with Marvel’s Spider-Man remastered running. When the crash happens, an “external drive repair sequence” occurs which ends with a black screen, and can only be fixed by restarting the console.

It’s an unusual case and we’ll know in weeks time if this is a common issues once more of the public gets their hands on a PS5 unit.

Plugging an extended storage through the rear USB ports of the PS5 could lead to crashes and file corruptions

A reddit user named Dello512 reported that he used a 1TB NVME extended storage on the PS5’s front USB C port and on his PS4 with no issues, but when he tried the extended drive through the PS5’s rear USB ports, he was welcomed with system crashes. Other users reported similar issues using their extended drives through the rear ports with file corrupted error messages, suggesting a hot fix from Sony is needed right away to prevent further damage.

So far, make use of the PS5’s front USB port as many who experienced the said issues have found success with that side.

Players are experiencing a “queued for download” bug

In a report from IGN, There are reports from players experiencing a bug that prevents them from downloading certain games and applications by having the download request stuck at the ‘queued for download’ state. Some players also experienced a download error instead of the former.

What does the bug do exactly? It places your download in an state where it won’t start the download nor can it be cancelled or redownloaded.

The only known fix for both issues are to trigger a factory reset on the PS5 console. This bug was experienced when trying to download games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Demon’s Souls, Spider-Man Remastered, and more.

These are the big known issues so far. It’s likely that more will be reported as the PS5 becomes available in other countries. The PS5 launched in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Mexico and South Korea while the PS5 will launch in the UK and Europe on November 19, 2020.

It was also announced that the PS5 will be available in the Philippines on December 11, 2020. This is just for the standard version of the console that features a blu-ray disc tray. There is no word if the digital edition will be available in Southeast Asia.
