Pac-Man 99 Is A New Battle Royal Game Heading To Nintendo Switch Online
/ Carlos Hernandez
Bandai Namco and Nintendo has announced Pac-Man 99, a Pac-Man battle royale game that’s coming to the Nintendo Switch on April 7 as a free exclusive game for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
Super Mario 55, Tetris 99, and now this. Classic games are getting the battle royale treatment and I shouldn’t act surprise that Pac-Man was given the same treatment eventually. Similar to other games like it, you are competing against other players playing the game to see who will be the last player standing in a match.
Have a look at the announcement trailer to see how it plays below.
Pac-Man plays like the classic but every ghost you chomp will transfer it to another player as a Jammer Pac-Man, which slows down the player if it touches you, making you easy pray for the remaining ghosts in your game.
There will be a sense of strategy in Pac-Man 99 as there will be eight different preset strategies you can utilize to make sure your the last one standing. One of the more interesting ones is the addition of the Ghost Train, which can be formed by eating these stationary ghosts found in the stage. Once a player eats a Power Pellet, the ghost train will be vulnerable for a chomp each ghost attached to a train will be send to players. You can then use the targeting options in the game to specify where you’ll send your ghosts.
Pac-Man 99 will also come with paid downloadable themes based on Namco classics such as Xevious, Galaga, Dig Dug, and more. So far the game is exclusive for the Nintendo Switch and will be available for download on April 7 at 6 PM PST / April 8, 9 AM GMT +8.
So far, I’ve been loving my new console. It truly feels like a generational leap from the original Switch, even if its core concept remains the same. This may be simply an iterative, straightforward improvement over the original system, but I guess the thinking is that as the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
