Rust has sold over 12 million copies

Developers from Facepunch Studios are celebrating a new milestone as their overly popular survivor game Rust has sold over 12 million copies since the game was released in Steam’s Early Access in 2013.

It’s crazy that the survival game where players start with nothing but a large rock to work with has grown so much through the years. Rust officially left Steam’s Early Access program back in 2018 and since then has kept growing. The game has also been available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One since May of last year.

The developers celebrated this milestone by sharing a few stats in their latest Steam blog post. It’s surge is largely contributed by the streaming community as Rust blew up in popularity last year as the game has reached over 300 million hours watched on Twitch.tv. Further success shows that the DLC packs sold for the survival game is over 1 million.

Even on Steam today, Rust remains a strong title. Based on Steamdb, the game can easily hit a 24-hour peak of over 100k players and be one of the top 10 games on Steam.

The developers must be feeling great for how 2021 ended for them and is looking forward to 2022. The folks at Facepunch promise “guaranteed monthly updates”, the occasional hotfixes and holiday events. Also expect new weapons, vehicles, deployables, and animals to be added into the game.

In February, they plan to release qualify of life changes to the game but didn’t go into detail in their post.

Rust is available on PC via Steam and also on PS4 and Xbox One.
