Capcom Still Has Nothing to Say About Mega Man

During the Q&A portion of Capcom’s latest shareholders meeting (as spotted by Nintendo Life), someone asked about the status of the Mega Man series. A fair question since Mega Man 11 launched way back in 2018, and we’ve heard nothing since.

Mega Man on Limbo Once More

Capcom’s reply? Not exactly thrilling.

“The Mega Man series is one of our most important IPs, and we are continuously considering ways to develop it further. However, we do not have any additional information we can share at this time.”

That’s now two annual meetings in a row where shareholders have brought up the Blue Bomber, and still, no concrete updates or even a tease to excite.

It’s been seven years since Mega Man 11, nearly matching the eight-year gap between Mega Man 10 and 11. A remake? Another remaster? A new Mega Man Legends? At this point, anything would be welcome.

There’s clearly potential to bring the franchise back in meaningful ways. But maybe they’re not all that confident with today’s gaming landscape, which makes me wonder: what exactly is holding Capcom back?

Capcom insists Mega Man remains one of its key IPs, yet over the past few years, it sure doesn’t feel that way. For a 36-year-old franchise with over 38 million units sold to date, it deserves more than silence.

There are a few interesting insights, like how Exoprimal was considered an experimental title, which their effort there for online play eventually contributed to the company’s efforts in providing cross-play to Monster Hunter Wilds’ cross-play features.
