The Outlast Trials Season 4 Adds Conjoined Twin Killers
/Developer Red Barrels has unveiled Season 4 of their online co-op horror game The Outlast Trials, titled Project Diarchy. The season introduces a new Prime Asset: the conjoined killers Otto & Arora Kress.
It’s a twisted new concept, two conjoined twins turned into a single monstrous asset now roaming the halls and hunting players together. And their backstory? Pretty chilling.
“What God has joined together, let no man rend asunder… and so it is with the Kress Siblings, Otto and Arora, twins conjoined at birth due to their in utero exposure to toxic chemicals, and the latest Prime Asset to arrive to The Outlast Trials! Firstborns to the wealthy industrial magnate Anton Kress, the twins suffered even before birth, as their mother was exposed to the poisonous fumes of Anton’s experiments and died bringing her children into the world. Reviled by their peers and blamed by their father for their mother’s death, the Kress Siblings nevertheless found their sick pleasures wherever they could… and will soon be unleashed to terrorize the Reagents of The Outlast Trials.”
Season 4 launches on July 15
Alongside Otto and Arora, players can expect a new trial environment called The Shopping Mall, a fresh Trial, MK-Challenges, and the reintroduction of the game’s Rebirth system, now revamped with more team-play options.
The full breakdown of gameplay changes will arrive with the patch notes once Season 4 goes live.
More Content Coming This Fall
Season 4 is the game’s Summer 2025 update, with the next major drop expected in Fall 2025. Red Barrels has already teased that it will arrive just in time for Halloween, bringing a limited-time event and a brand-new game mode.
The Outlast Trails’ is looking interesting
When The Outlast Trials was first revealed, it surprised many, including me. Fans of Outlast and Outlast 2 didn’t expect Red Barrels to pivot toward online co-op. On paper, it didn’t sound appealing to some longtime followers, but the studio stuck with the idea, and the game has since carved out a strong presence.
Today, it holds a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam with over 50,000 user reviews, a testament to how well the co-op horror approach has resonated.
I haven’t played it myself just yet, but I’ve been keeping an eye on it. While it’s playable solo, I feel it’s best experienced with a group willing to brave the horrors together. Hopefully, I’ll find that group soon. And who knows, The Outlast Trials might just end up on my list of best co-op games to play in 2025. From everything I’ve read and heard, it seems to fit the bill.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach delivers higher visual fidelity, consistent performance across the board, and a few new tricks that make gameplay more accessible, challenging, and fun. If you have the patience and come in with an open mind, you’ll be in an exclusive group of people who will struggle to describe this experience to anyone else.
