Genshin Impact PS4 End of Service Begins This September, PS5 Not Affected
/Mihoyo officially announced that the PlayStation 4 version of the free-to-play open-world action RPG Genshin Impact will no longer be supported after April 8, 2026. While this might sound alarming, the game itself isn’t shutting down as it’s only its PS4 version. According to the developer, this decision is due to “limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size.” The PlayStation 5 version will remain unaffected by this change.
Genshin Impact PS4 Shut Down Will Roll Out in Three Phases
Players have ample time to prepare for the shutdown, as the discontinuation will happen in three key phases starting this September:
September 10, 2025 – Genshin Impact will be removed from the PlayStation Store on PS4. However, existing players who previously downloaded it will still be able to re-download the game.
February 25, 2026 – All in-game purchases on the PS4 version will be disabled.
April 8, 2026 – End of update support. PS4 players will no longer be able to log in to the game.
“We recommend that Travelers currently playing on PS4® transition to PS5 or other supported platforms to continue enjoying the game. Your game progress will not be affected. If you have any questions regarding this announcement, please feel free to contact Genshin Impact Customer Service.” says MiHoYo.
Cross-Save and Cross-Platform Support Make the Transition Easier
Thankfully, Genshin Impact supports cross-save and cross-platform play. That means PS4 players can continue their journey on PS5, PC, or mobile without losing progress. To do this, simply link your PSN account to a HoYoverse (MiHoYo) account. Once linked, your save data will carry over to any supported platform. More details here.
Still, it’s unfortunate for those who only have access to a PS4. While there’s time to plan ahead, the complete loss of login access by April 2026 marks a major shift for long-time PS4 users.
That said, even after the game is removed from the PlayStation Store on September 10, players who had previously downloaded it will still be able to redownload the game, as the restriction mainly affects new users.
As for the second phase in February 2026, this will only affect the ability to purchase in-game items, not gameplay itself.
