Fallen Tear: The Ascension launching on September 16 on PC
Fallen Tear: The Ascension, a side-scrolling action metroidvania from Philippine-based studio CMD Studios, is set to leave Steam Early Access on PC and officially launch on September 16, 2026.
Fallen Tear will cost $24.99 / €24.99 / £21.99 / ~PHP 599, with a 10 percent launch discount when version 1.0 releases. The game will support English, German, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese at launch, while French, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese, and Korean will be added sometime after release.
There's currently no release date for the console version.
What does the 1.0 version of Fallen Tear contain?
The Early Access version of the metroidvania action platformer featured 10 interconnected regions, six main bosses (three optional), and 10 Fated Bonds, the game's mechanic where protagonist Hira bonds with key characters to earn unique abilities. The full version nearly doubles the available content by adding 10 additional major regions, five new main bosses, 11 new Fated Bonds, and a staggering 19 optional bosses for completionists.
As for Hira himself, version 1.0 adds three additional Ascensions, six new Hunter Skills, four new Elemental Imbuements, and 16 new Mastery Skills. All of this results in a game that takes roughly 35 to 40 hours to complete the main story, while players aiming for 100 percent completion can expect around 80 hours.
The game's time in Steam Early Access was relatively short, as the project entered Early Access just this March. CMD Studios received strong support from its growing player base after launching its Kickstarter campaign in 2024. The campaign performed exceptionally well, attracting 3,002 backers and raising $135,918 in additional funding despite having an initial goal of just $30,000. While the campaign didn't reach every planned stretch goal, it still unlocked eight stretch goals, such as free post-launch content, more NPCs, voice acting, new game modes, New Game+, and even an alternate ending.
Support for the project has been overwhelmingly positive, impressing many players who have tried the game. On Steam, it currently holds a Positive review rating with over 200 user reviews since entering Early Access.
CMD Studios is an indie studio based in the Philippines, and Fallen Tear: The Ascension is its first release. I previously spoke with several members of CMD Studios about their leap into indie game development, an endeavor that remains a risky undertaking for Philippine developers.
