Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires 4 Is Coming to Xbox Consoles

Xbox Game Studios and developer World’s Edge will be releasing the RTS classic Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on January 31, 2023. Soon after, the latest title in the series , Age of Empires IV, will be available in the consoles sometime in 2023.

“We knew that bringing the complexity of RTS to Xbox consoles was a massive task and one we had to approach carefully and thoughtfully. The team has been working hard to bring an experience that not only feels great using a controller, but also teaches players how to play on Xbox” said World’s Edge director of customer voice Emm Bridle.

The idea of a real-time strategy game being played on the controller does sound a bit intimidating. So much to keep track of in a single game that even on keyboard and mouse it can be tough. Though, they did say that a new tutorial will be implemented and designed specifically for controller input, so hopefully what they have planned will make it easier than one might think.

But in case you’re not keen on playing it on controller, the game will still feature keyboard and mouse support. The game will also have cross-play support between Xbox consoles and PC.

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition has been heavily supported since its release in 2019 with numerous updates. The game will feature 83 maps, 42 multiplayer civilization, 34 single-player campaigns, 7 co-op campaigns, and 10 multiplayer modes.

Age of Empires 4 will come to consoles soon after in 2023 and will likely have the same support as mentioned above, but nothing’s been confirmed just yet.

Both games are available right now on PC Game Pass and will be available through Xbox Game Pass on day one.
