A New Metal Slug Game Was Announced, But For Mobile Devices
/ Carlos HernandezSNK has revealed that a new Metal Slug game is currently in development and that it will be available on mobile platforms.
In partnership with Call of Duty: Mobile developer TiMi Studios and mega company Tencent, this new mobile game retains the same Metal Slug sidescrolling action we know and love coupled with a modern design that respects the original look and feel of the game.
The working title is currently Metal Slug Code: J and there’s a trailer up which you can check out below.
Most of the iconic power ups and even the Metal Slug tank itself is back with new features like that ice weapon or some sort of player hub which I assume is a place to interact with in-game characters or organize in-between missions.
SNK also announced that a Metal Slug game for consoles is also in the works and is planned for a 2020 release, but details are currently limited. More details soon.
This isn’t the only announcement that involves TiMi Studios. Last week, The Pokemon Company announced a new MOBA for mobile devices called Pokemon Unite which is also currently in development at TiMi Studios.
Writer’s take: Looks great but does it play great with mobile controls? There’s so many questions as this can be another grindy free-to-play game or an actual sidescrolling game with a series of stages and finish line, who knows. I’ll remain hopeful as a fan of the series as there’s not much details released just yet.
