Pokémon Unite Is A MOBA Game We Didn't Think Would Happen

During Pokémon Company’s latest livestream presentation called Pokémon Presents, they announced their new mobile game titled Pokémon UNITE a 5v5 MOBA game similar to games like Dota 2.

Pokémon Unite is being developed in cooperation with Tencent and TiMi Studios (Arena of Valor, Call of Duty: Mobile).

Pokémon Unite will play similar to how MOBA games are played on the mobile phone. The map will be familiar to players that know the genre and you level up your chosen Pokémon by defeating wild Pokémon or players from the opposing team. In this game, the objective is to capture as many wild Pokémon that’s scattered across the game map, then bring those captured Pokémon to any of the scoring areas to score points for your team. The team with the most points win - a friendlier approach as most MOBA games simply task you to destroy the other team’s base in order to win the match.

Pokémon Unite will be available on Mobile devices and the Nintendo Switch as a free-to-play title, or how Pokémon Company describes it, “a free-to-start game”. It will have cross-play support at launch and in-game microtransactions will likely be featured in the game.
No release date was given by Pokémon Company. Based on the like and dislike ration on Pokémon Unite’s trailer video and the Pokémon Presents livestream in Youtube, not many are keen by the concept.
