Planetside 2 has now gone live!

Sony Online Entertainment's Planetside 2 has now opened its servers to the world. This game offers an FPS experience on a grand scale. We are talking about thousands of players joining three factions, and fighting it out for map control. The game is Free-To-Play and I suggest you start downloading and form ranks! Oh, and you can check out the launch trailer below too.

I've had my time with the game a month ago during the closed beta and it's crazy on how massive this game is. It's battlefield in a whole new level. The game looks amazing, and in regards to how well the shooting is in this game, it's in par with modern triple A shooters out now, which is a surprise since this is a free game.

If you are looking for a game that would really provide you with an all-out war experience, this would be perfect. Head over to Planetside 2's official website to sign-up and start downloading. Friendly warning, this game requires a lot of space to install. See you all on the battlefield!

Planetside 2 gets a release date

Sony Entertainment Online has now given a release date for Planetside 2, a Free-To-Play online shooter. This will actually be considered an MMO because this FPS is about huge scale battles with thousands of players, and again, it's going to be free to play. Get ready to pick one of the three factions, because Planetside 2 hits on November 20.

Planetside 2 aims to provide a true all out war. With thousands of players on a huge map battling on either land or air, it's going to be chaotic real fast.

Here's a good look at Planetside 2 from MMOBomb.com.

What's interesting about Planetside 2 is that there's a lot of roles to pick from to assist in this massive battle. First off, you get to pick a specific class for your soldier. Then there's also vehicles and equipment that lets you be effective against certain units like air vehicles for example.

It's quite a surprise that Planetside 2 is actually going to be on a Free-To-Play model. Thousands of players in one map is not an easy thing to maintain, but the Free-To-Play model has proven itself over and over that it's possible to stay alive with no monthly fee. There will be of course an online shop to buy cosmetic items, but the shop will not be selling weapons or rather items that would give you an advantage. Everything is accessible without spending a cent, but of course there will be items solely for looks that it would be hard to resist.

Will definitely check it out when it hits on November 20.

DC Universe Online going free to play very very soon

DC Universe Online Free to Play Sony Entertainment Online announced last month that DC Universe Online is going Free to Play for PC and PS3, now they reveal that this will take effect on November 1. If your planning to give DC Universe a chance, this is the perfect time and it's only a week away.

Free players will have access to Metropolis, Gotham, and all raid and alerts. There are restrictions though like inventory space, money limit etc, and must pay to get more space or certain features. If you already spend around $5 on your account, you will be upgraded to  a premium account that lessens certain restrictions. Legendary status is pretty much the same old $15 monthly payment that takes out all restrictions. For PS3 players, it's a good thing....sorta. Like myself, I'm stuck with DC Universe Online and cannot sell it. In order for me to make this PS3 title usable, I'll have to cough up 15 bucks. With the Free to Play model, at least it isn't a dead CD in my list of games. Having the option to play the game anytime is better than nothing.

This whole idea of going Free to Play is looking to be every MMO's last resort in order to stay alive. Not certain if DC Universe Online was in a bad state, but going Free to Play is a good indication, especially before announcing this change, they announced reducing servers to only four left.

DC Universe Online going Free to Play

Sony Online Entertainment announced that their adapting the now famous Free-To-Play model to DC Universe Online. No surprise there since a few months ago they brought the server count to 4. They say the change isn't because of the reduced players in the game, it's just a better business model to maintain the game. Whatever the reason, playing an online game for free is always a welcome change.

There's going to be three types of plans for DC Universe Online - Free, Premium, and Legendary

Free Players will have access to pretty much all the 1-30 content including raids and alerts, but of course have a lot of restrictions like cash limits and only having 2 character slots, you can't trade, you can't auction, and more. The usual restrictions for free players in MMO's that encourages you to buy stuff.  There will also be adventure packs and DLC which you will have to buy.

Premium Players has a little bit more freedom, just a bit. If you spend at least $5 or more in the game your instantly placed as a Premium Player.

You have a higher cash limit, the option to auction now, 6 characters slots to use, you can trade items only, and more. For only $5 to become a Premium Player, I think it's worth the investment if you really want to try out the game. Free Players are just too limited.

The last one is the Legendary Player. Which is pretty much access to everything. DLC, adventure packs and all will be free, but for a monthly fee of $15.

I have the game on the PS3 and was just curious how an MMO can work in console. Well that curiosity just lasted a month and didn't even pay for the second month. Wasn't too impressed with the game. While it was fun at first, but as you progress to the end content I didn't get the urge to improve my character and enjoy raids. At the same time, they didn't have that much end game content. Since it's free to play, I'll give the game another try, see the changes when they launch the new Free-To-Play model.

Check the official website for more information, they also provided a FAQ.
