Weekend, what are you playing?

Persona 4

Again, sorry for the lack of a weekend post (and my lack of posting stuff in general lately) last weekend. Post or no post, things have happened and games were still played. So, what are you playing?

Migoy: Been streaming quite a bit this week partly due to the suspension of work and classes due to the heavy rains brought by the monsoon winds here in the Philippines. Lucky for me we didn't experience any power outage or loss of internet so video games were played. With my personal excitement for Persona 4 Arena, the new fighting game by Arc System Works (the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue guys), I decided to get a copy of Persona 4 for the PS2. Back when I just got a PS2, Persona 4 was released shortly after. I started hearing a lot of good things about it but thought that it was a series so I got Persona 3 FES first instead of 4. Since 4 has a different set of characters and a new storyline, not knowing the characters in P4A wouldn't make it as fun so me and my cousin booted up Persona 4 and are around around 13 hours deep (maybe 15 or so hours all in all if you count the game overs). Aside from that I played a bit of Street Fighter II Turbo Hyper Fighting for the SNES using an emulator so that I could use my arcade stick and man, the AI in that game is pretty tough which made winning feel a whole lot more rewarding.

Dead Space 2

Quash: Last Tuesday I was able to trade-off my Counter Strike: Global Offensive Beta on Steam's game trading forums. I already had access to the beta and for some reason I had an extra one, so I decided to get a game for it. Dead Space 2 was the only offer that caught my eye. I've always wanted to play Dead Space 2 but never bothered getting a copy, that's why when it was offered to me, I took it in a heartbeat. CS:GO beta's value is around $5-$10, and Dead Space 2 is around the same value in the trading forums, so in terms of value - I wasn't ripped off. Plus, CS:Go is coming out in a few weeks so its perfect timing to let it go.

I just started yesterday and it's worth the trade. The eerie atmosphere and the feeling of isolation is why I love Dead Space. I'm a few chapters in and  so far nothing much changed in terms of gameplay. I did try some multiplayer matches though, and right off the bat I consider it a waste of time. I'm surprised people still play this multiplayer to be honest. Will continue again later tonight because game's like this must be played at night.

Weekend, what are you playing?

dabudabu e Happy father's day to all you dads out there. Any videogame plans for this weekend? What games are you playing?

Migoy: It's both Father's Day weekend and ToyCon weekend so ToyCon took my Saturday and my dad is watching TV for Sunday. I was able to get in some Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 during Saturday morning before I left for ToyCon and a friend of mine lent me a few games. Got in almost an hour of WWE '12 but since the net was being wonky, I went with local recording over live streaming the n00b insanity.

Quash: I won't talk about Diablo 3, I promise. This weekend, I'm trying to finish a Hitman game for once. Not much of a Hitman fan but the next entry in the series, Hitman: Absolution looks amazing. So I'm playing Blood Money to get familiar with the series and it hasn't grown on me yet. I'm a few stages in and the controls for the PC took awhile to get used to. We'll see how it goes in the end, but I'll definitely finish Blood Money.

Weekend, what are you playing?

E3 2012 is done and we've been graced with a lot of delicious news, hella plenty trailers, and tons of gameplay.  But those new games aren't out yet, what are you playing?

Migoy: I accompanied my cousin to Greenhills VMall yesterday because he was going to get his first console bought with his own hard earned money.

He picked up this bad boy, a metallic red 320gig PlayStation 3 Slim . One of the latest released of the Ps3 slim from Sony with a gorgeous metallic paint job along with a chrome plate that holds the power and eject buttons. The embossed PS3 logo on the top is also chrome plated as opposed to the regular gloss plastic. Similar to me, his first game was also Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 which I still think is the hypest of hype. It looks like I won't be able to fraud my way to a win against him and his bros. since they have something to practice on now.

While testing out his brand new PS3, of course we popped in UMvC3 because we had to let the game update first and it seemed only fitting that that would be the first game his PS3 plays. UMvC3 was the main motivator for the purchase. After that I decided to lend them my copy of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition since they mentioned that they played it at the arcade a few days back and even though UMvC3 is awesome, one can still get tired from playing a single fighting game for too long plus all the salt could ruin a good relationship between brothers. The game updated after downloading a hell of a lot of updates and we only played one match. I felt the huge difference between SSF4AE and Street Fighter x Tekken. Those games make look very similar but they are hella different.

I just got myself a 2nd-hand copy of Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit and we played a bunch of that too. It sucks that you are forced to play a somewhat bad "story mode" just to unlock the characters. Sure unlocking stuff is fun but c'mon, only 3 characters available at the start?

Before all the PS3 buying and spending a ton of money in less than an hour, me and my cousin played Mobile Suit Gundam EXTREME VS. Seriously, so much has changed from Next Plus that it looks like I have to completely relearn the game from the ground up. Plus the AI is mega cheap. Does anyone know if that game has 4-player VS? Because if so then I definitely have to save up and get two more PS3 controllers. The PS2 adapter doesn't work for EXTREME VS.

Now I'm off to watch the Pacquiao vs Bradley fight, happy weekend everyone!

Diablo 3

Quash: Still at it with Diablo 3. During the start of the weekend I continued my 42 Barbarian in hopes to get the guy to level 60 by the end of the week. Needed a break from my Demon Hunter. He's currently at act 3 on Inferno and the fact that everything one shots me is pretty scary. I did manage to progress by killing Siegebreaker, the second boss in Act 3, but now I'm stuck at the wave of enemies after him. Inferno is loads of fun(For gamers than want a challenge) and I want to feel Inferno as melee. I hear Blizzard is going to change a few things in Inferno to make things easier. I don't want that, so I'm really rushing my Barbarian to 60 to play Inferno before the announced nerf. As I write this, my Barbarian is now at level 51 in Hell Difficulty. Just 9 more to go!

Weekend, what are you playing?

efficient With it being the first week of Diablo III's release, I can pretty much guess what most of you (if not all) are playing but nonetheless if you have an epic story to share from you demon slaying or world saving adventures, share them here.

Migoy: Tried out Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS. on the PS3 and boy does it feel different compared to it's previous iteration Mobile Suit Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus. Sure the fundamentals are basically the same if you've spent a significant amount of time in any fighting game, you'd be able to pick out the differences in each iteration. If I were to put it simply, the timing on moves and dash cancels is tighter, boost seems to drain faster, moves have been replaced / reshuffled, same goes for the roster. They've also brought back a mechanic that was present in the PS2 and PSP Gundam VS. games Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Rengou vs Z.A.F.T. (back then it was called SEED mode) where you get a speed and slight power boost as well as replenishing you boost meter and all your ammo. Assists have also been removed nd that took a little getting used too. I am loving the game so far and will definitely paly more of it. It feels like a completely different game that I need to learn from the start.

Planning to play a bit more of Skullgirls since I just the full version of it on PSN. If the fighting games tire me out there are still a bunch of JRPGs that I need to tackle. Namely Final Fantasy XIII and Kingdom Hearts.

Quash: Oh god, I was literally off the grid thanks to you know what. Diablo 3 is great and just as addicting as it's predecessors. My first playthrough took me 15 hours since I was looking at every dungeon, exploring every part of the map, listening to the books I find and talking to the characters in the game. Pretty much taking all that Diablo 3 has to offer. The game has good length. But normal was too easy for my taste, so now I'm aiming to reach the hardest difficulty which is Inferno. Currently on Act 2 Nightmare and is still not giving me any sort of challenge for my Demon Hunter.

I don't see myself shelving this game anytime soon too. Just like the old Diablo games, I have this urge to try other characters and find the best loot. So far my biggest issue with Blizzard's latest game is that it's online. I play alone or with a friend, it doesn't matter. Lag will always be around to piss me off.
