Super Mario 3D All-Stars Will No Longer Be Available Online After March 31

Nintendo will be delisting Super Mario 3D All-Stars in the Nintendo eShop and If you’re planning to get the game digitally, you have until March 31 to buy the game.
When Super Mario 3D All-Stars — a collection of classic Mario games Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy — was announced back in September, they did mention that the title will only be available online from September 18 until March 31, 2021. Apparently, nothing change with that decision as Nintendo has sent out a Tweet reminding fans that we only have weeks to get the game.

Just to be clear - those who bought Super Mario 3D All-Stars will still have access to play and download the game.
What’s the deal with the limited release? Well, Nintendo is treating Super Mario 3D All-Stars as part of their 35th anniversary celebration for Super Mario Bros. last year, and they are sticking with that idea. In an interview with Polygon back in December of 2020, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser said that “at this point, the decision was really made around that celebration feature and aspect. I can’t speak to plans beyond the the end of March.”
This also goes for the online battle royale Super Mario Bros 35, which will only be available for play until March 31, 2021.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars was given a physical copy release on the Switch but it will likely be limited and production of new copies will be discontinued.
It’s a frustrating decision for fans and despite sales and reaction on the collection, Nintendo is going through with removing Super Mario 3D All-Stars out of their online store.
So far, I’ve been loving my new console. It truly feels like a generational leap from the original Switch, even if its core concept remains the same. This may be simply an iterative, straightforward improvement over the original system, but I guess the thinking is that as the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
