Cyberpunk 2077 now over 18 million copies sold, expansion set for 2023

CD Projekt Red announced during its latest financial report that their sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 18 million copies as of April 14, 2022.

For added context, Cyberpunk 2077 sold over 13.7 million copies in December of 2020 alone, so it’s likely not the best growth the studio was expecting for a game now over a year old.

The company is still committed to improving the game since its launch in 2020. The game recently received its current-gen patch, which greatly improves the performance and quality of the game from both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. An expansion for the game is still happening as they confirmed that the team is on track to release it sometime next year.

The latest report also mentioned that the Witcher series has sold over 65 million copies worldwide, with Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with over 40 million copies sold since its release in 2015.

The studio also noted in the financial report that they are working on the next installment in the Witcher series using Unreal Engine 5 and still has plans to release The Witcher 3 on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The company is also working on an unannounced project on the Molasses Flood, further support for their free-to-play card game Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, plus a release of a spin-off version of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.
