Xbox addict 'dies from blood clot'

I just read this a little while ago on Yahoo! and thought to share it.

The family of a budding computer programmer have on Saturday launched a campaign to raise awareness about the health risks of playing online computer games after their son died following a marathon session on his Xbox.

A post-mortem revealed that 20-year-old Chris Staniforth -- who was offered a place to study Game Design at Leicester University -- was killed by a pulmonary embolism, which can occur if someone sits in the same position for several hours. Deep vein thrombosis normally affects passengers on long-haul flights, but medical experts fear youngsters who spend hours glued to their consoles might also be at risk and have urged them to take regular breaks.

What I don't like about these sort of articles (aside from the whole death part) is that when people read the title, they instantly blame gaming as a whole. It's not the game's fault, it's our own negligence that brings about these kinds of tragedies. So remember guys, take care of yourselves, take regular breaks after every hour or so, and happy gaming.

Weekend, what are you playing?

July is over and August is here. Oh how time flies. What are you playing?

Migoy: After coming home from work Saturday morning, I hit the sack and slept like a rock through the morning. Went out during the afternoon looking for things that could better my broadcasting setup so I didn't really do any solid gaming as I just booted up games to test stuff out. But since I was out, I had my trusty PSP with me and with it some Super Saiyan action. I put back Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai 2 Another Road which was my first PSP game and was the game that got me hyped to save up for a PSP in the first place. Just some good clean fun punching dudes with a force that could destroy mountains and blasting people with beams of light. Kamehameha!

Quash: Last saturday i finally did it, I bought myself an Xbox 360! an early early birthday present to myself. It's an Xbox 360 250gb slim with no Kinect, I'll make a post about it soon about the details, but this weekend I'm playing Halo: Reach and Alan Wake, the first games for my Xbox. Just activated my one month free in Xbox live gold and tried out Reach's MP, next I'm going to start my first playthrough of Alan Wake.

Arlie: This week I started my first playthrough of Mass Effect 2 as the default male Shepard. I am already 30 hours in-game, doing all the sidequests possible and all the loyalty missions. In my next playthrough, I'll play as a female Shepard maybe in Insanity difficulty.

Old Spice Guy joints the cast of Gears of War 3

Isaiah Mustafa, better known as the "Old Spice Guy" will be bringing his 'the man your man could smell like' smell to the chainsaw bayonett toting Gears in Gears of War 3.

"The cast just keeps getting sexier and sexier," joked Epic's design director Cliff Bleszinski as he revealed the news at the San Diego Comic Con. Mustafa joins the likes of John DiMaggio, Ice T, and Claudia Black. His character is listed as "COG Gear," which makes it sound like he's not going to have a particularly big role in the game. It doesn't help that he's wearing a helmet either. Perhaps we could be seeing an Old Spice easter egg in the game.

Red Dead Redemption: Myths & Mavericks DLC

It's time to blow away the dust out of your Red Dead Redemption copies because another DLC was officially announced by Rockstar. We all thought Undead Nightmare was the last DLC, but many months later, we get Myths& Mavericks that's coming in Sept, best part? it's free. Don't get all excited for this free DLC, because Myths & Mavericks isn't as beefy as Undead Nightmare. The DLC will add a few fan favorite character skins and new areas for Deathmatch, Gang matches, Grab the Bag and other modes in multiplayer.

If your still into Red Dead's multiplayer, you're going to like the fact that free maps are on the way. If not, hey, it's free anyway. This DLC is said to show appreciation for the long support of the game's multiplayer. No actual date, but it's planned to be out in September.
