Gearbox Software Shuts Down Battleborn Servers Permanently
/ Carlos HernandezGearbox Software’s hero-based online shooter Battleborn is now officially dead as servers were shut down permanently on January 31, 2021. The online game lasted for 5 years.
And when we say dead, any game mode, even the single-player content is no longer playable.
Gearbox and publisher 2K announced the shutdown of Battleborn’s servers back in 2019. Released in 2016, Battleborn had an interesting concept since it’s launch, but the online hero hybrid failed to establish a solid community to support the online-only title, which resulted in Gearbox to release the game’s final update patch in 2017.
Another one bites the dust. But despite the dwindling players through the years, there are the devout few that played the game to until the very end. Battleborn’s subreddit is now filled with goodbyes and posts on what the game meant for them.
If you look through any online store, Battleborn is no longer available. The best one could do is pop in a physical disc and run the game but will be met with login errors.
Gearbox Software could potentially revisit the Battleborn universe in a different form but don’t hold your breath as they are not done supporting Borderlands 3 as the RPG looter shooter will be getting new DLC from it’s second season pass sometime this year.
Writer’s take: I recall having a blast with Battleborn when it came out but didn’t have the drive to play hours on end. It also came out at the worst time since Overwatch launched a year before Battleborn and it was taking most of the momentum and never looked back.

It’s easy to describe Animal Well as a puzzle-focused Metroidvania eschewing traditional combat, where nearly every room is a puzzle room, but that falls so far short of describing just what this game is and how expertly it defies genre and classification that it feels like a disservice. Animal Well is a paragon of the art form, a game that simply must be experienced.
