Destiny 2 Forging Iron Quest Guide: How To Unlock Each Step

The first run of Destiny 2’s Iron Banner for the Season of Plunder starts this week and in case you’re hoping to finish the Forging Iron quest during the Iron Banner week – which lasts from September 6 to September 13 – here’s a quick guide on what to expect from this quest.

Iron Banner no longer has bounties and to progress and earn Iron Banner exclusive rewards, you simply need to play the game mode, which now features a new game mode called Eruption, where players must work together to earn kill streaks and protect those that do have a kill streak going to earn more points and eventually win the game. It’s an intense and tight game mode compared to previous game modes featured in Iron Banner.

Forging Iron Quests Guide - 6 steps to complete

The Forging Iron quest is the game’s way of introducing players to the new version of Iron Banner for the first time. Go through this 5 step questline that gives you a good idea on how to progress and earn rewards from the game mode.

Step 1 - Finish one Iron Banner match

The first step is pretty self explanatory. Just simply join either the Freelance of normal Iron Banner game mode and complete a match. Win or lose, you’ll complete the first step of this quest.

Step 2 - Complete a daily challenge

If you’re a returning player, take note that Lord Saladin no longer provides Iron Banner bounties to progress faster in the event. Now, there are daily challenges that can be found in the game’s Director screen. You can see the current challenge by simply hovering your mouse on Iron Banner. Each challenge will reward you with a pinnacle gear drop and you can complete a total of four challenges during the week, meaning you can earn as much as four pinnacle gear during Iron Banner, just like how it was when there were Iron Banner bounties.

Step 3 - Earn Iron Banner Rank points

This is again pretty simple as you simply need to play the Iron Banner game mode to earn Rank points. Earn 300 Rank points to complete Step 3, which should take around three to four matches depending on the gear you bring. Each piece of Iron Banner gear you wear in the game mode will increase the amount of points you earn after each match. In case you have some Iron Banner gear, consider wearing a few even after you’ve completed this quest.

Completing a daily challenge will give you a 2x rank boost, if you wear a piece of Iron Banner gear, each piece boosts the amount of rank points you will earn each match.

Step 4 - Claim an Iron Engram

With enough rank points from multiple Iron Banner matches, it will result in you ranking up in Iron Banner. When you rank up, head back to Lord Saladin and claim an Iron Engram at the upper right of the vendor screen. Each rank up rewards you with an Iron Engram, which you can use to earn Iron Banner exclusive gear and weapons, or simply consume it to receive a random gear. Once you get your first Iron Engram, you’ll move to step 5.

Step 5 - Complete matches with Iron banner gear

Once you’ve claimed your first Iron Engram, back out and head back to the Iron Banner but this time wearing Iron Banner specific gear. The more pieces you wear to the Iron Banner game mode, the faster this step will be completed. A single piece will earn you 20% in the step’s progress, so if you want to get it done right away, equip multiple pieces. Beyond that, nothing too special here, just keep playing until you complete the step.

Step 6 - Talk to Lord Saladin

Once you’ve played enough Iron Banner matches to complete step 5, head to Lord Saladin and you’ve completed the Forging Iron Quest. Keep playing the game mode, rank up, and use the Iron Engram for the gear and weapon’s you’re grinding for during this week-long event.

The gear locked in the Focused-decoding section of the vendor will be unlocked once you get a piece of the same gear unlocked in your collection. Ranking up is the easiest way to get unlocked so you can use your Iron Ingram on them.
