Disney closes LucasArts division, Star Wars 1313 now halted

E3-13With Disney now owning everything Star Wars when aquiring LucasArts and LucasFilm for Billions of dollars, the third person shooter Star Wars 1313 has his development halted when Disney announced the closing of LucasArts. An end of an era, and a missed opportunity with 1313. Kotaku was informed from a source this afternoon that the chances of Lucas licensing out 1313 are very slim. The odds are "effectively zero," the source said.

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games," LucasArts parent company LucasFilm said in a statement. "As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

With the studio no more, Star Wars 1313 is pretty much officially cancelled. The third-person shooter that mad its debut in last year's E3 wowed many including myself seeing the Star Wars license in a different light. I loved the idea of having a third-person shooter in the Star Wars universe, but I guess that concept will be forever buried.

Gamescom 2012: Game trailer summary - Part 1

Gamescom 2012 is currently on-going at Cologne, Germany and there was just tons of trailers coming out of the event. Instead of continuing the solo posts for each one, I decided to sum it all up in one post for your viewing pleasure. From The Last of Us, Assassin's Creed 3, to a new God of War: Ascension trailer. It's trailers galore!

The Last of Us

 Dead Space 3 Weapon Crafting

This video is more of an explanation really. We know all about co-op as the new feature for Dead Space 3, but now Visceral Games announced weapon crafting. Want a Line Gun with a flamethrower? Boom! You got it.

Crysis 3 Hunter Mode trailer

Crysis 3's Hunter Mode is a new multiplayer mode. Two hunters wearing nanosuits are tasked to prevent a group of Cell soldiers from reaching the extraction point.

ZombiU Gamescom trailer

Sadly, this is the only reason why I want a Wii U.

Assassin's Creed 3 Naval Battles trailer

The Unfinished Swan

You got to love indie games. The Unfinished Swan is a PS3 exclusive and the game is literally a white space. You throw black paint in order to reveal your surroundings. It's one of those games that people wonder if this can be considered art.

Star Wars 1313 gameplay trailer

I haven't been excited for a Star Wars game in a long time. Game looks amazing but it's unusual that until now we have no announcement on 1313's platforms. People are hinting this could be rolled over to next-gen consoles. Either way, can't wait.

God of War: Ascension multiplayer trailer

God of War having multiplayer. I won't bother ranting and just accept it. I hated the fact that Mass Effect 3 was getting a multiplayer, but in the end it turned out as a lot of fun. So I'll just keep quiet because this might turn out fun. Brutally killing another player God of War style does sound good though.

 Planetside 2 trailer

That was quite a handful and I'm pretty sure I'm still missing a couple more trailers and videos. Click out Gamescom archives to have a look at all post related to this year's Gamescom.

E3 2012: Star Wars 1313 revealed, shows gameplay

Star Wars 1313Apparently a new Star Wars game is underway and its called Star Wars 1313. This isn't the usual game that lets you play a badass Jedi or Sith. No, not this time. For 1313, you play as a Bounty Hunter and visit the criminal underworld way below Coruscant. Game looks gorgeous and it has a mix of Uncharted elements in it.
