Uncharted 3 will require an online pass for multiplayer

U3 multiplayer With Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception being one of Sony's biggest titles for the PS3 this year, this isn't much of a surprise. Each copy of Uncharted 3 will provide an online pass code that you need to input before trying out the game's multiplayer.

Why the need for Online pass? well they want to earn more, at the same time it's the company's way of fighting second-hand buying. Sure you can still get a second-hand copy, but if you want to give the multiplayer a shot(assuming the online pass for that copy is already used), you'll need to buy your own Online pass in the PSN store for $10 bucks.

Online pass is slowly getting implemented whether we like it or not. Ubisoft is doing the Online Pass idea and it looks like Sony is too. THQ, EA and Warner Bros(Mortal Kombat) is also doing it and it's only a matter of time when ever game developer will be implementing the Online pass with games that have multiplayer.

What do you guys think of the Online Pass? I don't think it's that bad, but then again I don't buy second-hand games that often.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception will be in stores on November 1, 2011 exclusively on the Playstation 3.

Ubisoft joins the ranks of Online Passes

Online passes will consume us all. Ubisoft will soon begin shipping versions of their most popular games with an Online Pass code which will be handled through UPlay.

Called Uplay Passport, it will be required to access “bonus content, exclusive offers, and online multiplayer play”, according to company statements. For players who buy the games used, they will have to purchase the code for around $10. Driver: San Francisco will be the first game to use Uplay Passport.

... We're doomed.

Sony Becomes 1st First-Party to Institute Online Passes

Oh noes. Following in the footsteps of THQ, EA, and Warner Bros., Sony has confirmed that they will be the first first-party to include an online pass with their game to unlock some, hopefully not all, of a game's online features. This is rumored to be called PSN Pass.

New copies of games will come with a one-time-use only code that can be used to access online play. What this means is much like previous games that require a pass to play online, players who buy the game used will have to shell out a fee for a new code. For now, the price point is still unknown. Sony has confirmed that Resistance 3 will be the first game to have this feature / restriction.

And there it is, so much for PSN being free. We all knew this was coming when EA copied THQ regarding this online pass business. Capcom might be starting a new "screw over the players" trend with their whole Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D undeletable save game bit to, from what I'm guessing is, destroy the used game market.
