Ubisoft confirms a new Assassin's Creed for 2012

Assassin's Creed01

After the release of Assassin's Creed 2 back in 2009, Ubisoft has been releasing a new Assasin's Creed title each year. With Assassin's Creed:Revelations coming out soon, Ubisoft confirms that they will indeed release yet another one for 2012.

This is no surprise. The bigger question is if  their rushing this franchise out the door. Usually when a great game developer creates an amazing game, they aim higher for the sequel, this is not the case for Assassin's Creed after the second game. This franchise seems that they're fine going sideways - progress in the story but have small changes to the game.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed the next Assassin's Creed for 2012 during the company's earning call. "There will be another great, full-fledged Assassin’s Creed title next year," he said. "It will be a major release and we’ll be communicating more about it in the coming months."

Assassin's Creed: Revelations will be out in a few weeks and will be the last chapter for Ezio and Altair. This game for 2012 will revolve around the last story arc left; Desmond Miles.

If Assassin's Creed 3 is actually coming next year, or maybe Assassin's Creed:[insert title here], I doubt it will be the last. They could easily find different story arc's to keep the Assassin's Creed franchise rolling.

I'm not a big fan of games having around a year of development time, so I'm kinda iffy about it. Quality could suffer. Releasing a new title each year hopefully won't come as a regular for future franchises. I'm fine waiting for the sequel just like the rest.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations is still on its way and will be out on November 15 for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
