The new PlayStation Plus launches first in Asia this May

Sony have announced the release dates of their new PlayStation Plus offering that will come with additional tiers, and it looks like Asia will be getting the service first as it’s targeting a May 24, 2022 launch.

Japan is expected to get it on June 1, the Americas June 13, and Europe June 22. Sony also announced that their cloud streaming access will be expanded, putting the total number of markets to 30. The premium tier of PS Plus will also be offered in Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

“We’ve been working on this massive global effort to provide flexible options, quality games and greater value for our members for quite some time now – and we’re just a few weeks away from our first regional rollout.” says Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

This new PlayStation Plus will be a three-tiered service. The first tier called PS Plus Essential, will be the current PS Plus we know today. PS Plus Extra gets all the benefits of Essential plus access to a catalog of games of up to 400 games. PS Plus Premium is the final tier and gets the benefits from both Essential and Extra, as well as more access to games from the original PlayStation, PS2, and PSP systems. Premium subscribers also get PlayStation Now, their cloud streaming service, packaged in as well as time-limited game trials for future games.

For select markets, Sony will be offering PS Plus Deluxe, a cheaper version of Premium as some regions in Asia will not have access to their cloud streaming service.
