The Finals Closed Alpha Test Happening on September 29

Embark Studios released a pre-alpha game trailer for their explosive free-to-play multiplayer shooter titled The Finals and also announced that the first closed alpha test of the game will start on September 29. Players can opt in for a chance to try out the game this week through Steam.

As for the gameplay trailer released, it’s rather intense with so much going on, contained in a video that’s less than 2-minutes long. The biggest pull is the amount of environmental destruction that can be done in a single match. Have a look below.

The Finals was first revealed by Embark Studios back in August with a short tease of the game. The video below is the first time we see the game in action.

The biggest feature is dynamic destruction in this online shooter. The Finals is set in a virtual game show and is a team-based shooter that will have a main mode with a player lobby of 12 players. That’s four teams of three fighting to see who will emerge the winner of the match in a game mode called Extraction - players fight over boxes of coins scattered across the map, the team with the most coins will win the round.

Dynamic destruction is best known in the Battlefield series where environments such as structures are destroyed based on the amount of damage players inflict during a match. Everything I saw in the video above kept bringing me back to the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 or Battlefield 4 days, so when I find out that the studio working on The Finals is Embark Studios – which is being led by Rob Runesson who is known for his work on the Battlefield series – everything makes sense.

The crazy part is it’s going to be free-to-play for current gen consoles (Thanks, PC Gamer) such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and of course will be available as well on PC via Steam.

No release window was mentioned but again, signing up for a chance at playing the first alpha test is just one click through the game’s Steam page.
