Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on Steam Launches With Mostly Negative Reviews

The next adventure of Cal Kestis is here as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While the sequel has received rave reviews from critics, the PC version of the game isn’t doing so well with the public as the game’s Steam page at launch currently has a review score of ‘mostly negative’ due to poor optimization and fps issues reported by players.
It’s no exaggeration as the game on Steam currently has over 2,000 reviews with most of them complaining about the current state of the game. Players with decked-out rigs running with 3080 GPUs are reporting inconsistent FPS as the game is struggling to maintain 60 fps for many. Some have also reported crashes and other hitches when playing the first few hours of the game.
Some reviews left their comments vague saying how poorly optimized the game was, but there are a few that gave more context on what they experienced. One review from Doctor TacoChocolate, says that “Game is extremely fun but performs terribly. I'm using a 3090 FE and 5700x and getting a consistent 30 fps in some areas. Other areas give me a mostly consistent 45. This is at 1440p. Lowering the settings and using FSR don't make a tiny bit of difference. And it goes up to like 19 GB of VRAM. It's a rad game but definitely wait unless you have 24 GB of VRAM and don't mind playing games at 30 fps.”
It seems like it’s the same story on Reddit as players are also reporting similar experiences, mostly stating that the game can’t maintain a stable 60 fps.
Over time, the PC port of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will get better as soon as patches roll out, but it’s understandable to have a wave of players upset about the experience, all excited to play a game they’ve waited for a long time and are sadly met with performance issues on day one despite having a beefy PC future proof to play any game. This isn’t the first instance this year as the PC port of The Last of Us Part 1 also delivered poor performance for PC players right out of the gate.
Stellar Blade’s potential was clear, but as its ambitions expanded into something greater, it lost focus. As soon as Stellar Blade tries to bring everything together, it merges into a single figure that looks deformed and uneven. The quality is unquestionable but it wasn’t the final product I was slowly building in my head as I went through the game’s first half.
