Outriders’ free New Horizon update adds new content and various changes

Developer People Can Fly and Square Enix hosted a brand new live broadcast for their looter shooter Outriders, which revealed the free New Horizon update coming on November 16, adding new Expeditions and a series of changes based on player feedback, balancing, and more since launch. They also announced a new expansion called Worldslayer slated for a 2022 launch.

People Can Fly have been mostly silent with regards to the future of Outriders as most of the updates done were focused on addressing the various issues players experienced when the game went ive. For the most part, all of the biggest issues have been resolved as they are now comfortable in looking forward, and it’s a pretty hefty announcement for fans.

The New horizon update is a pleasant surprise as it launches this week, November 16. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect from the update:

Four new Expeditions with mini-stories

  • The Molten Depths – Return to Eagle Peaks and clear out a hidden power station at the command of ECA Captain Jocelyn Dunham. Tier 1.

  • The City of Nomads – Aid Outriders' Wanderer in protecting an old, unexplored Pax village. Tier 4.

  • The Marshal’s Complex – Grand Marshal Korrigan tasks players with taking a facility from insurgents but it’s “anything but another insurgent camp.” Tier 8.

  • The Wellspring – Tiago sends players here, an ancient pilgrimage site for the Pax, said to be filled with forgotten riches. Oh, and it’s protected by a powerful Storm that keeps getting stronger. Tier 12.

Major Expedition Changes

  • Expeditions are now played without a timer (though it can be turned back on if a player so chooses but has no difference in rewards.)

  • Eye of the Storm now rewards a choice between three legendary items upon completion.

  • Tiago changes - Random Legendary Items can now be bought and Tiago’s elite offer pool can now be re-rolled for a price.

Other changes and Transmog

  • Brand New Transmog Feature

  • Buffed player skills and gear for all four Outriders classes.

  • Extensive Bug Fixes and Balance Changes (drop rates, armor sets, mods, class trees, skills, general QoL updates, and more.)

  • Matchmaking has been fine-tuned.

The folks at People Can Fly also teased Outriders first expansion called Worldslayer. A short teaser was revealed but didn’t reveal much, but it’s slated for a 2022 release.

You can have a look at the latest Outriders Broadcast via Youtube. With just shy of being 20-minutes long, the presentation breathes new life to the looter shooter. The developers are not treating it as a live-service games in the veins of Destiny 2 or Warframe, but it’s good to see them support the game further and the expansion certainly hints that this franchise has a future.

I still stand with Outriders being a great looter shooter in it’s own right. Nothing groundbreaking here and it will not constantly drip-feed you content, forcing you to play everyday, but it was definitely worth the time and effort as I easily spent over 60 hours looting and shooting.

Outriders is now available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC.
