Outriders Cheaters Will Be Permanently Branded In The Full Game

Outriders is set to launch this week on April 1 and the latest dev update noted that if you cheat in the game, your account will be branded a cheater, everybody will know you’ve cheated, and there will be a few negative benefits for being marked as one.

You can see the full pre-release blog post on Steam posted by developers People Can Fly, as the overall post not only pointed out how cheaters will be handled in the game but also informed us that a few changes have been made since the playable demo was released.

There’s always going to be cheaters in a video game, and with a co-op focused looter shooter like Outriders, those who exploit and modify the game in such a way that they can earn more than a regular player would just ruin the experience for everyone involved. It seems you won’t be banned for such behavior, and if you don’t care about the negative perks given to cheaters if caught, then by all means play the game solo, heck, maybe group with other cheaters and trade secrets.

For the developers People Can Fly, you are considered a cheater if:

  • Intentionally running the game on PC without Easy Anti Cheat (EAC)

  • Modifying game files to enhance a character: levels, skills, inventory, etc.

  • Externally modifying game time to reduce time dependent features such as vendors and challenges

  • Using a trainer program or similar to gain advantages within the game

  • Using gameplay altering programs such as aimbots or wallhacks

Individual players who are found to be being regularly kicked by multiplayer hosts shortly after joining may also be manually reviewed as an additional anti-cheat/anti-grief safeguard.

The developers pointed out that during the demo, 0.01% of players cheated. That’s 200 out of the 2 million players that have played the demo since February. People Can Fly devs see all apparently, as they were able to identify that a play has amassed a total of 600 legendary weapons for himself through cheating methods. Impressive haul, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it once you are branded as a cheat.

Here’s what happens when you get branded a cheater:

  • Repercussions are account wide, not character specific

  • You will not be able to matchmake with legit players

  • Matchmaking will likely take significantly longer

  • You will still be able to play solo

  • In future, your HUD will have a discreet but visible watermark placed on it so that gameplay footage created on this account can be readily identified as coming from a flagged account.

If you are one of the 200 players that have exploited the game during the playable demo and do not like the effects of being marked as a cheater, People Can Fly is giving you a chance to have a clean slate. Before the game launches on April 1, make sure you delete all your characters, clearing your account of all items and progress. Pretty much a manual account wipe done by you.

Those at People Can Fly would like to point out as well that farming for loot, so feel free to continue repeating the side quests in the demo and gather a good amount of in-game resources to prepare for the full game’s release.

Outriders will be out on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
