Arc Raiders Shrouded Sky Update Makes Wolfpack Grenades Rare and Valuable

Arc Raiders showing crafting requirements for the Wolfpack after the Shrouded Sky update.

Embark Studios has just gone live with Arc Raiders’ latest major update, and the most talked-about change isn’t the new map condition or the two new ARC enemy types. Instead, it’s the fact that players now need Rocketeer Drivers to craft Wolfpack Grenades. This effectively turns the most effective grenade against ARC enemies into one of the most valuable items in the game.

Cherish your Wolfpack Grenades

Before the Shrouded Sky update, players with the Wolfpack Grenade blueprint could craft a single grenade using just three Explosive Compounds and two ARC Motion Cores, relatively easy materials for a grenade capable of taking out a Rocketeer in one shot at certain angles.

After the patch, you need one Explosive Compound, two ARC Motion Cores, and one Rocketeer Driver, an item that can only be found from one of the most dangerous ARCs patrolling topside. That change alone effectively nerfs much of the player base’s effectiveness against Rocketeers and other ARCs simply because Wolfpacks will no longer be abundant enough to make them less threatening over time. Picking up a Wolfpack during a raid will now feel like striking gold, and killing a Rocketeer to loot one becomes significantly more important.

I find this to be a welcome change. Part of what makes the game compelling is that ARCs remain a constant threat, and making Wolfpacks rare forces players to approach encounters more carefully. This will likely affect fights against enemies like the Matriarch, especially for players triggering the second Expedition, which resets their account progression.

Unsurprisingly, much of the player base isn’t happy with the change as players rarely celebrate updates that make a game more challenging, especially an extraction shooter.

Another blow found in the 1.17.0 patch is the nerf to several basic weapons, including the Stitcher, Kettle, and the widely used Venator. The Venator nerf feels long overdue (despite being nerfed twice already), receiving a damage reduction, while the Stitcher and Kettle were also weakened, making cheaper loadouts less reliable overall.

The surprise is that we didn’t get a nerf to the IL Toro shotgun, which has been dominating close-quarter fights. With the Stitcher now weaker, this makes the shotgun even more sought after.

It’s only been a day, so we’ll see if there are more surprises from the Shrouded Sky update.
