Gotham Knights Will Be Capped at 30 FPS on consoles, Will Feature a 4-Player Game Mode After Launch

WB Montreal revealed that their upcoming action RPG Gotham Knights will run at 30fps/4k with no performance/quality mode on current consoles when it launches on October 21, 2022. It was also revealed that a 4-player co-op mode that will be separate from the game’s campaign is coming as a free update after launch.

Gotham Knights will run at 30fps/4K on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S

This can be a deal breaker for some and not something fans would like to hear with the game launching next week. Having a graphics options for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S games have become somewhat a standard since these consoles were released as various games have provided the option to choose from Performance Mode (to run the game at 60fps) or a Quality mode (higher resolution quality but at 30fps) to give the player the option based on their setup and preference.

The 30 fps cap was confirmed in the game’s official Discord channel by Gotham Knights executive producer Fleur Marty.

"Due to the types of features we have in our game, like providing a fully untethered co-op experience in our highly detailed open-world, it's not as straightforward as lowering the resolution and getting a higher FPS. For this reason, our game does not have a performance/quality toggle option and will run at 30FPS on consoles." says Marty.

In Resetera, a user that has access to the game also claims that Gotham Knights is indeed capped at 30fps, and the thread is now filled with people expressing their disappointment about the news.

There’s currently no mention of a 60fps update in the future as well.

4-player co-op game mode Heroic Assault coming for free after launch

In case you’re not aware, Gotham Knights might seem like a 4-player co-op game with Robin, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Bat Girl fighting together in most of the game’s promotional material, but the game’s main campaign only features solo or 2-player online play. But don’t worry, according to the game’s FAQ page, a 4-player co-op is coming to the game in the form of a new game mode as a free update on November 29, 2022.

It’s called Heroic Assault Mode and is said to be a dedicated arena where four players go against waves of enemies and complete certain objectives in each floor. There will be 30 floors available in this game mode. It pretty much sounds like one of the game’s endgame activities, something to do once you’re done with the campaign and would like to play more of the game’s combat with some friends.

In case you’re planning to pick up the PC version of the game, the minimum system requirements for Gotham Knights were revealed recently.

Gotham Knights is set to launch on October 21 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
