Ubisoft Updates Ghost Recon Wildlands to Celebrate series’ 25th Anniversary
Ubisoft is celebrating the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series by updating Ghost Recon Wildlands, which is still considered the series’ most beloved title. The update adds 60 FPS and 4k support and a new-story-driven mission.
For a 2017 game to get new content in 2026 clearly shows the popularity of the game. Last Rites is a free content drop developed by the team at Ubisoft Bordeaux, and is a standalone mission set in a darker, more oppressive Bolivia. Players enter a region controlled by Los Penitentes, a fanatical cult united by faith, sacrifice, and violent justice. The overall goal? to hunt down the cult leader La Llorona.
Predator mission returns
The update also brings back the free Predator mission where you get to hunt a Predator with your team of Ghosts. As far as we know, this mission is now permanently added to the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if it goes away again as I suspect it’s a licensing issue that makes content like this a limited event.
“Ghost Recon wouldn’t be where it is today without the passion, dedication, and feedback of its community over the past 25 years,” said Olivier Leonardi, Creative Director. “With Last Rites, we wanted to create an experience that honors that legacy—something that feels authentic to longtime Ghosts, celebrates what makes this franchise special, and reflects our appreciation for the players who have been with us every step of the way.”
Free Play Sessions for Wildlands and Breakpoint
As part of the celebration, both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be free to play from August 6 to August 10 ,2026. Breakpoint is also celebrating the anniversary with a bundle releasing in September that adds free items such as the M4A1 Tactical Brown, Wolf Enhanced Helmet, and Opheis Mk.II Hunter.
Ghost Recon Insider program
Development of new content is a promising sign for fans of Ghost Recon, and the fact that Ubisoft set up a Ghost Recon Insider Programe to give feedback for the next entry in the series confirms they currently have no intentions to shelve the series and is working on the next entry.
