Far Cry 6 Will Not Feature A Map Editor Like Previous Games
Based on a recent Reddit AMA hosted by Ubisoft Far Cry 6 developers, it looks like the open world FPS will not feature a map editor or an arcade game mode like previous titles, making it the first mainline title in the series to not provide such a feature.
Reddit User DANNYonPC simply asked if the map editor will return, and game director Alexandre Letendre replied saying “No, Arcade will not come back.”
“Removing this mode from our plan was a difficult decision, but allowed us to focus our efforts on the main campaign, transporting players into the heart of a modern-day guerrilla revolution,” says Letendre.
The addition of a map editor was expected as each of the main games in the Far Cry series always shipped with the feature since Far Cry 2. Far Cry Arcade was the latest map editor packaged in Far Cry 5 and included a crazy amount of assets from previous Far Cry titles and other Ubisoft games like Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs. Players could create either co-op or PvP focused maps with enough freedom to make whatever they want, and there were a lot of misses than hits in that mode.

It’s a bummer to hear Far Cry 6 ending a tradition but it’s also interesting to see what that will result in. Far Cry 6 is set to launch on October 7 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC.
Ubisoft Philippines has come a long way since it was established 10 years ago. From humble beginnings to now being equipped with a capable team of developers, the studio tour I participated in showed where they are a decade later, and how their efforts resulted in what we see in certain parts of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced.
