Fallout 76 Trailer at Xbox Games Showcase Reveals You Can Fish Now

During the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase, Bethesda also dropped a new trailer for their other MMO, Fallout 76, spotlighting the addition of fishing in the recent Gone Fission update. This free update adds the ability to fish across various locations in Appalachia. Yes, really.

Gone Fission Marks Fallout 76’s 23rd Major Update

While the update includes a few balance tweaks, the main attraction is fishing. Players can use different types of bait to lure in mutated aquatic monstrosities, with weather conditions, rod types, and location all affecting the catch.

The update also introduces a new location in the Mire. Those who get hooked on fishing can eventually meet Linda-Lee at Fisherman’s Rest, a giant hermit crab lounging on the dock. She's more than just a spectacle: she’ll reward players with a legendary item in exchange for hard-earned Fish Bits.

There’s a wide variety of fish to catch, ranging from common to incredibly rare. Both bait and weather play a role in your chances of hooking something special. The rarest catches are axolotls; there are 12 different varieties, and one particular kind can only be caught once per month.

And yes, Fallout 76 is still alive and kicking. A solid community still logs in daily to explore, build, and take part in events. They're also, surprisingly, still one of the friendliest groups I’ve come across in an MMO.

If you walked away disappointed when the game launched back in 2018, trust me, it’s come a long way. Regular free updates have added a ton of content, and owning just the base game is more than enough to dive back in without needing DLC to catch up.

Bethesda really wants to remind us that both of their MMO games are still alive, as The Elder Scrolls also received a new trailer during Xbox’s biggest stages.

This is just one of many announcements revealed during the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase. If you’re still catching up, we’ve got you covered with a full recap of the biggest reveals from the event.
