Blizzard just went live with patch 2.4.3 for Diablo 3. Also known as the Anniversary Patch, this includes a new event that allows you to play all 16 levels of the first Diablo game, complete with retro looks and movement.

Where Can I Find This Event In Diablo 3?

Pretty simple - play a character that can go to the 'Old Ruins' waypoint in Act 1. From there, head south to the broken fountain and you'll find a portal that will transport you to the anniversary event.

We highly recommend you go through the event with a fresh level 1 character, we hear a couple of rewards will be waiting for you once you finish The Darkening of Tristram event.

Once you enter the portal, you are now going through The Darkening of Tristram event - which is pretty much you going through Diablo 1 in Diablo 3 assets. The first thing you'll notice is that the graphics, sounds, and movement have been altered to let players experience Diablo back in the day.  You have all 16 levels of the Labyrinth, complete with the four bosses from the first game. There are also new achievements for the special event.

How I wish we can keep this UI skin for the rest of Diablo 3.

How Long Will 'The Darkening of Tristram' Event Last?

Just until this January. Yes, this piece of free content to celebrate Diablo's 20th anniversary will not run through the whole year.

People at Blizzard's forums and Reddit have criticized the choice of making special events like these limited. With this being Diablo's 20th anniversary, fans have pointed out that a proper remaster of the first game is a better choice. In the end, we get a single event in Diablo 3 with graphics and sounds to best suit our journey to Diablo 1's 16 levels.
