This Pokemon Legends: Arceus extended look on gameplay details crafting and combat

There’s a new gameplay video for Pokemon Legends: Arceus that explains thoroughly the core gameplay mechanics of the game from how you can catch a Pokemon, how battle works, material gathering, and crafting.

This extended video really highlights the possibility of future Pokemon games as Arceus goes beyond the norm and tries different ways to play the game. The most notable change that everybody knows about is that it’s open world and you can catch or interact with wild Pokemon even before you engage in a traditional turn-based battle with your own Pokemon. This video does the right job at showing how exciting that is compared to previous footage.

The video then explains the crafting system where players can craft items like potions, lures, PokeBalls, and more. The materials needed for crafting can be found all around the open world with some materials only reachable with the help of your Pokemon. We see the player commanding their Pokemon to attack a tree to drop the fruits it contains, for instance.

In Arceus, you are part of a Survey Corps tasked to research the wild Pokemon that live in the Hisui region, which is apparently the original name of the Sinnoh region. This game takes years before the events of Pokemon brilliant Diamond and Pokemon shining Pearl – the Pokemon remake released on the Switch last year – so this was a time before there were Pokemon masters and trainers running around trying to be the best there ever was.

You should really check out the 13-minute video above if you don’t have a good picture of how Pokemon Legends: Arceus plays compared to previous titles. The game is only weeks away as Arceus is set to release on January 28 for the Nintendo Switch.
