Developer Rabbit & Bear went to Kickstarter to get support for their JRPG project titled Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, which is a spiritual successor to the Suikoden franchise and is being led by none other than Suikoden creator Yoshitaka Murayama. It took less than 3 hours to reach their Kickstarter goal and less than 24 hours to reach the 1M mark.

It’s pretty exciting as Suikoden fans have been hoping for a new entry to the beloved JRPG franchise and Eiyuden Chronicle is the kind of project they were waiting for. With it being a spiritual successor, Eiyuden will feature 100 recruitable characters, a 6-character battle system and a visual style that mixes 2D sprites with 3D backgrounds, which reminds us of how 2018’s Ocotopath Traveler was presented.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will also feature Fortress Town, allowing players to build their own town that will not only act as the party’s base of operations but will be home for the many characters you’ve recruited in the game. Players will also get to build a cafeteria in their town that can be staffed by the characters you recruit, and who is working in that establishment will determine the kinds of recipes you can learn.

With the Kickstarter campaign surpassing the $ 1M mark, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, which started as only a PC title, will now be available on consoles as well. Since the project was announced during a console transition period, and that this project will need approximately 2 and a half years of development time, we won’t know the current state of the many platforms available in the future. But currently, Rabbit & Bears will offer Eiyuden on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo’s next generation console.

The last main entry in the Suikoden franchise was Suikoden V back in 2006 and it’s surprising to know we have not been given a new entry in the main series since then. With Eiyuden being fully funded in record speed, it shows the excitement for another turn-based RPG like Suikoden.

At this rate, Eiyuden Chronicle’s Kickstarter campaign will most likely reach all of it’s stretch goals, which includes a new game plus, new sound effects, added localization, and more. The Kickstarter will be up until August 29, 2020 12 AM GMT+8 / Aug 28, 9 AM PST.
