Sony Announced That Playstation 5 Has Surpassed 40 Million in Sales

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the PlayStation 5 has now surpassed 40 million in sales since it officially hit the market in November 2020.

It’s an impressive feat considering it launched at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and a chip shortage that made the system so difficult to purchase in the first two years. It was so difficult that many regions resorted to pre-order or raffle systems due to high demand as units available for purchase were sold in seconds. Thankfully, things are better now.

“Despite the unprecedented challenges of COVID, our teams and our partners worked diligently to deliver PS5 on time. We continued to face headwinds with the pandemic, and it took months for supply chains to normalize so we could have the inventory to keep up with demand. For more months than I care to remember, we kept thanking our community for their patience while working through these issues. But now PS5 supply is well-stocked and we are seeing that pent up demand finally being met.” says PlayStation President and CEO Jim Ryan in a post announcing the 40 million sales milestone.

Together with the celebration of reaching 40 million sales, Sony also shared the top 40 games voted by PlayStation players as great games available on the PlayStation 5.
