Silent Hill 2 Gameplay Trailer “Does Not Reflect the Spirit of the Game”, Says Studio President

In the first major State of Play broadcast from Sony, Konami revealed our first look at gameplay of the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, and it looks like Blooper Team’s president Piotr Babieno agrees with the negative comments that have been piling up in the YouTube trailer.

Babieno commented on the combat reveal trailer’s reception in an interview with Polish investor news channel Inwestorzy.tv. The video has been taken down but Eurogamer Poland was able to transcribe what he said about the latest trailer.

Despite reaching impressive views of close to 1 million in two weeks, the comments section of the trailer is filled with mixed to negative reviews expressing their distaste for the remake’s visuals, the atmosphere, and the combat animation. Blooper Team’s president seems to agree with the reaction to the trailer that he jokily said “I wrote those negative comments myself,”

“In all seriousness, we are not responsible for the marketing side.”, says Babieno, pointing out that responsibility for the game’s marketing is Konami.

“It is not the spirit of what it used to be or what we are creating now. We are trying to fully reflect this romantic vision about the game, which debuted 22 years ago.”

Babieno further expressed confidence that gamers will have a different view of the game if they see “real” gameplay of the Silent Hill 2 remake. He then says that to those disappointed with the remake’s visuals, Bloober Team is utilizing all capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, the game engine being used to develop the remake.

This isn’t the best start to Konami’s attempt at reviving a beloved horror franchise. It first began in October 2023 with the release of Silent Hill: Ascension, a mobile title that is considered an “interactive experience” that received mostly negative reviews due to the overall concept of the product and how the game was heavily monetized. Konami then released Silent Hill: The Short Message for free this February and sadly that also isn’t going too well with fans so far.

Silent Hill 2 currently has no release date but it’s currently set to release sometime in 2024 on PS5 and PC.
