Pokémon Scarlet and Violet announced, launching late 2022

The Pokémon Company and developer Game Freak has announced the next mainline entry to the Pokémon series - Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet for the Nintendo Switch. It’s set to launch this year in late 2022 worldwide.

The reveal of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet  happened during the tail-end of the recent Pokémon Presents presentation, which featured updates on other Pokemon titles such as Pokémon Go, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and more.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will feature gen 9 Pokémon in a new region that (based on the reveal trailer above) seems Mediterranean with the coastal beaches.

If you head to the game’s official website, this is how they described the new games:

“Various towns blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders. You’ll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streets—all over! You’ll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them—now in an open-world game that players of any age can enjoy.”

The starter Pokémon for this new adventure was also revealed. Meet Sprigatito (grass), Fuecoco (fire), , and Quaxly (water).

It’s a great time for Pokémon fans as the remakes of Pokémon Shining Pearl and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond did release last November, and we were given the series’ first open world Pokémon game in Pokémon Legends: Arceus last month. Now, fans can look forward to a new mainline entry to the long-running series when Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet sometime in late 2022. That’s a lot of Pokémon.
