New World will have an open beta before it's September launch

Amazon Game Studios announced that their MMO New World will have an open beta before it’s September 28 launch. Players eager to try out the new game can try it out from September 9 through September 12.

The announcement was made at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live and it’s everybody’s chance to see if New World is something you’ll enjoy when it goes live a few weeks later.

The open beta will begin on September 9, 2:00 PM UTC (September 9, 10 PM GMT +8) and will be live until September 12 6:59 AM UTC (September 12 2:59 GMT +8)

To access the open beta through Steam, you’ll have to request access to the open beta client through the Steam Playtest tool in the New World Steam page.

If you played the closed beta and are curious what has changed, you’ll have to wait until the open beta goes live as they plan to release the patch notes showing the changes in New World’s official forums.

Don’t think progress will carry over as it may be a chance to test the game before making a purchase, this is still a test as Amazon is likely going to test how well their servers will fare when waves of players start coming in to play the game. A stress test, if you will, will determine what they need to do to achieve a smooth launch.

For those unfamiliar, New World is not your traditional MMO similar to World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV: Online. You will be joined by hundreds of players, joining factions, gathering resources, building/crafting stuff, doing quests with friends, pretty much exploring the vast world Amazon Game Studios has created. The combat is action-based as you’ll have to worry about your positioning when attacking as there is no auto-target to assist you.

Originally planned for an August 28 release, Amazon pushed the launch by a month as the closed beta revealed a few kinks that needed adjusting before they opened their gates to the world.
