Konami Announces Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remasters, Launches in 2023

Konami announced during the Tokyo Game Show that they’ll be releasing HD remasters of the first two games of the beloved Suikoden franchise. Titled, Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, this version of the game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime in 2023.

The first two games are considered one of the best JRPGS during its time but slowly disappeared as the last mainline entry in the series was Suikoden V way back in 2006 for the PlayStation 2. There were a few spin-off titles that were released but for the most part the series have laid dormant for years.

From the look of things, this seems like the typical HD remaster treatment we’ve seen in other franchises, which is greatly welcomed as a Suikoden announcement is long overdue.

Here are the key features from this HD remaster according to the game’s Steam page:

Key Features

  • All background illustrations have been upgraded to high-definition.

  • Updated effects breathe new life into the pixel art animation.

  • New environmental sounds effects to immerse yourself in this fantasy world.

  • Battle SFX are also now HD and add a new level of realism.

  • Newly added auto-save.

  • Battle Fast Forward.

  • Conversation Log.
