Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster/Remake and Multiplayer in Development, According to Reports

It looks like Sony is not done bringing more remakes/remasters to the PlayStation 5 as it was reported that a Horizon Zero Dawn remake/remaster and a multiplayer game of the series is currently in development.

As first reported by Mp1st – which was then corroborated by Video Game Chronicle and insider Tom Henderson with their own sources – this remake/remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn is said to feature more advanced character models, lighting, animations, accessibility features and gameplay improvements – all to make the first game more aligned to Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel that just hit this year.

It wasn’t confirmed if this remake/remaster is being built from the grown up. There was also no mention of a release window or price.

This approach sounds similar to what Sony and Naughty Dog did with The Last of Us Part 1, which was released just last month as the improvements of the first game made it more aligned to what is available in The Last of Us Part 2

Horizon Zero Dawn is currently five years old and has already been given an update where the PS5 can play the game at 60fps with 2160p checkerboarding resolution, but there’s currently no native version of the first game for the PS5.

A PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn was released back in 2020 that featured improved draw distance and higher framerates.

Mp1st also reported that a Horizon online multiplayer game is also in development for both the PS5 and PC. The project is said to feature multiple tribles already established in the franchise though it’s still unclear if this project will feature co-op, PvP, or both. This report supports Video Game Chronicle’s report of a Horizon multiplayer project back in 2021.
