Free-to-play Spellbreak Launches This Week, September 3
/ Carlos HernandezAn indie studio called Proletariat is entering the battle royale space with their free-to-play game called Spellbreak on September 3, 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and on the Epic Games store.
We know how battle royales work but Spellbreak is providing an interesting twist by creating an online game set in a fantasy world dominated by magic. Instead of guns you have spells to hurl at players in the hopes to be the last man standing.
Check out the launch trailer for Spellbreak below.
The most interesting part of Spellbreak is how spells work in the game. Each element in the game can be wielded by the player through elemental gauntlets found in the world and each player can equip up to two at a time. They all have a primary and secondary spell which can be combined for interesting effects. You use the bolder spell in the Stone element? Why not shoot a fireball at the bolder you just cast with the fire element and make it fiery meteor-like projectile that leaves fire pockets on the ground. There are 6 elements to wield as a battle mage in Spellbreak and it can go nuts with all the spells being cast during a fight between multiple players.
Exploring the game map will provide players with additional options to hopefully be the last player/s standing once the smoke clears. Chests scattered across the large map called the Hollow Lands can contain various potions and runes that provide utility spells such as flight, teleport, and invisibility.
Spellbreak is launching with Cross-Progression and Cross-Play support for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC players.

It’s easy to describe Animal Well as a puzzle-focused Metroidvania eschewing traditional combat, where nearly every room is a puzzle room, but that falls so far short of describing just what this game is and how expertly it defies genre and classification that it feels like a disservice. Animal Well is a paragon of the art form, a game that simply must be experienced.
