Dragon’s Dogma Concurrent Player Count Surge on Steam After Sequel Announcement

Days after Capcom announced that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is now in development during their Dragon’s Dogma 10 year celebration livestream, players expressed their excitement for the sequel as there have been an increase in concurrent players for the action RPG on the Steam platform.

According to SteamDB, and mentioned by Benji-Sales, the concurrent player count peaked at over 6,000. The last time the game reached these numbers on Steam was six years ago, the year when the Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen version of the game launched on Steam.

This is either a mix of fans revisiting the first game or new players curious as to why people are excited for the Dragon’s Dogma 2 announcement. That’s a rather impressive jump for a game that’s 10 years old, and this is just on the Steam platform.

The sudden surge was also contributed by the fact that after the announcement, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen on Steam, the PS4 version on the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox 360 version on Xbox Store are placed on an 84% discount, which is a complete steal for what I think is one of the best games during the PS3/Xbox 360 era.

I’m also one of the players that decided to revisit Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen soon after the sequel announcement and while I do see a few things that didn’t age well, it’s still just as good as I remember.

With regards to the sequel, no other detail was revealed besides the fact that it’s now in development and that series director Hideaki Itsuno will helm Dragon’s Dogma 2.
