Xenoblade Chronicles Genesis Announced for the Switch 2
During the Nintendo Direct that aired on June 9, 2026, developer Monolith Soft revealed the next mainline entry in the Xenoblade franchise, and it's called Xenoblade Genesis. It's set to launch in 2027 as a Switch 2 exclusive.
The reveal trailer was lengthy, and for good reason, as the developers appear to be setting aside the sci-fi elements of the trilogy for a more high fantasy tone focused on magic, or Anima, as it's called in the game. The new entry is set in a location called Leukos, and the game world is looking rather vast and open, similar to previous titles. There are also hints that it could serve as a prequel of sorts to the mainline series.
It's set for a 2027 release, but Switch 2 owners can spend time with the upgraded versions of the first three games in the meantime. Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are all getting Switch 2 editions. Xenoblade Chronicles Switch 2 Edition is available digitally today, with a physical release on July 30. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 hits digital on July 30 and physical on October 1. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 launches digitally and physically on December 3, 2026.
This is just one of the many big reveals, as Nintendo ended the show with the reveal of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.
